Whampoa tutoring: six conditions that support progress

Small classes, materials, assessment and communication must work together so understanding lasts beyond the lesson. These are the methods behind every Inspire Education class.

Six teaching features explained: how they work in lessons

Parents most want to know what these features mean in their child's actual lessons.

1. Small classes: resolve questions during the lesson

In large classes, students may hesitate or lack time to ask questions and only discover misunderstandings at home. Small groups allow tutors to identify difficulties immediately and address questions and corrections in class.

  • ✓
Immediate guidance Identify and correct mistakes immediately.
  • ✓
Confident enough to ask questions A lower-pressure environment helps quieter students speak up.

2. Professional tutors: break difficulties into achievable steps

Tutors understand Hong Kong's curriculum and common challenges at each year level. Effective tutors do more than solve questions: they explain topics through understandable examples and encourage motivation.

  • ✓
Familiar with the local curriculum the demands from early years and primary learning through to the DSE.
  • ✓
Break down difficulties Explain abstract concepts using everyday examples.

3. Structured materials: from foundations to advanced learning

More exercises do not automatically mean progress. Our own graded materials align with school learning: consolidate concepts, progress to harder questions, and strengthen comprehension and problem-solving.

5. Parent–tutor communication: working towards shared goals

After assessment, tutors explain weaknesses and agree next-stage goals with parents, turning observations into understandable actions at home. Shared goals avoid conflicting expectations for the child.

6. Individualised teaching: every child starts somewhere different

Students in the same year can have very different weaknesses, pace and personalities. Tutors adapt the content and break challenges into achievable tasks so each child experiences success.

Our learning process beyond a single lesson

Enrolment starts before the first lesson. Assessment, class placement, teaching and feedback form one connected pathway, with all six teaching features working throughout these four steps.

How our teaching features apply at different stages

The same approach has different priorities in kindergarten, primary and secondary school.

Early years K1–K3

Small classes use short tasks, stories and games to maintain concentration. Tutors develop expression, early literacy and English listening and speaking, while advising parents how to continue learning at home.

Primary P1–P6

Structured materials follow Chinese, English and maths school topics, addressing gaps before advanced questions. Upper primary adds time management and multi-step problems, supported by assessments for internal-exam preparation. STEM Exploration is also available.

Secondary S1–S6

First address gaps between junior and senior secondary, then break down reading, writing and structured answers. The DSE intensive course uses mock exams and focused checklists for final preparation.

Five questions to ask when choosing a Whampoa tutoring centre

Whichever tutoring centre you ultimately choose, these questions help you assess whether its teaching suits your child.

Is there an assessment before enrolment?

Without assessment, it is difficult to identify the right starting point.

Are classes small enough?

Class size affects a tutor's ability to identify and correct mistakes immediately.

Do the materials follow school progress?

Tutoring methods should apply directly to school tests and exams.

How are parents informed of progress?

Check for regular assessments, learning reports and explanations of weaknesses.

Can teaching adapt to my child's personality?

One teaching approach does not suit every child; flexibility matters.

How does small-group tutoring differ from large classes?

Small classes let tutors see exactly where a student is struggling and address questions and mistakes immediately. Larger classes find it harder to meet individual needs.

Do Inspire Education's materials follow school progress?

Yes. Our own graded materials align with school progress and build from foundational to advanced levels.

How often will parents receive progress feedback?

We track progress through regular assessments and learning reports, then discuss weaknesses and next-stage goals with parents. Please ask about the specific arrangements when enrolling.

Is small-group tutoring suitable for a quieter child?

We adapt content to each student's level and personality. Small classes help tutors notice quieter students and build their confidence through achievable tasks.
