Our free assessment helps parents understand ability, learning habits and priority subjects before enrolment, rather than choosing a fixed class solely by year group.
Two children in the same year may struggle with different things: maths concepts or Chinese comprehension, study habits or exam timing. Grouping by year alone can turn tutoring into repeating schoolwork. Assessment identifies genuine needs before the first lesson.
Assessment content: what do we look at?
Assessment uses short oral and written exercises covering core question types for the year. Tutors observe the following areas:
- 1Current level The student's command of core question types for their year group.
- 2Strengths and weaknesses Which topics are secure and which need attention first.
- 3Learning habits For example, concentration, expression, understanding questions and correcting mistakes.
- 4School requirements Use parents' information about school performance to establish a starting point.
Assessment priorities at different stages
Early years K1–K3: Mainly through oral interaction, we observe concentration, expression, character and sound recognition, and English listening and speaking. See Early years courses 。
Primary P1–P6: Covers core Chinese, English and maths question types. Lower primary focuses on concepts and habits; upper primary also considers comprehension, multi-step problems and time management for internal assessments. See Primary tutoring courses 。
Secondary S1–S6: Review gaps across the junior-to-senior transition and approaches to reading, writing and structured questions. Senior students also receive guidance on DSE preparation. See Secondary tutoring courses 。
After assessment: what do parents receive?
Tutors explain observed strengths and weaknesses and recommend lesson frequency and starting topics. Parents receive a clear next step, not merely a score.
- ✓Explanation of strengths and weaknesses Explain observations in language parents understand.
- ✓Recommended starting topics Which topic to begin with and what to address first.
- ✓Recommended lesson frequency Recommend appropriate lesson arrangements based on ability and goals.
No obligation to enrol after assessment
There is no obligation to enrol. If current classes are not a suitable fit, we explain honestly and suggest areas parents can address at home first.
We believe explaining honestly whether our current classes suit a child is more valuable than forcing a placement. This also reflects Inspire Education's Our educational philosophy : learning can be demanding without relying solely on pressure.
